Dream a Little Dream of Me

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper I love you
Birds singing in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me

Say nighty night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear
(Oh how you linger on)
Still craving your kiss
(How you crave my kiss)
Now I am longing to linger till dawn dear
Just sitting there
(Give me a little kiss)

Dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
Ya I am longing to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams when dreaming
(Till sunbeams find you keep dreamin')
Gotta keep dreamin'
(Leave your worries behind you)
But in your dreams whatever they be
You gotta make me a promise
Promise to me
You'll dream dream a little dream of me.

Maybe some day someone will dream one of me.

Sustained Pudginess - More Pictures

Enclosed are the pictures of my last trip to the scale and my labored
breathing efforts and what philosophy was given
to me for 50 cents at my local supermarket.

Working hard to stay positive.

Then I asked the Magic 8 Ball about love, and about someone specific,
and got my answer in the middle; and finally I had to get
some toothpaste and
went to check my blood-pressure.

Again.  Staying positive.

Dang!

Just got booked so I lost a day of creativity.

Maybe later ... I'll make notes while I'm out.

Always,

Julian

10 Things

As always, strolling through the internet has you come across some strange things.  Some you share and some you hide with a wicked glee and abandon, know the pleasure this will later bring to you when you're alone again or have more privacy with the information/picture/video.

This morning, with my coffee I found a few things that I consider odd and yet, comforting.  I would have seen some of them or something similar growing up in the 70's as a kid, and being in middle school at the cusp of the 80's.  Television always has something odd, or unusual, or colorful but when it makes you smile, there's a reason.  Mine is that they remind me of my childhood.

In fact, I think we saw some of these oddball commercials and outdated PSA's and sex-ed lessons when I was a kid in middle school (which was once calls 'junior high') on a giant projector in the small health classroom at the other side of the gym.

So here they are to tickle or terrify you:

By the way, my schedule changed; I'm gonna be working Monday so I am gonna be scribbling as much as possible while I've got the time.

Always,

Julian

A Song in My Heart

I like music quite a bit. I'm actually jealous of people who can sing, and in all honesty I am too shy to attempt karaoke performances anywhere here in town. Maybe if I went out of town like Austin or Houston, I'd give it a shot. Someplace where I'm a total unknown.

Of course, if I blow it and make a hilarious spectacle of myself then people could film it, post it to Youtube and I'll be, as the kids say, an "Epic Fail!" My sister & brother were in choir, band and are musically inclined. That they get from my mother. My dad is the silent one and usually makes an effort to assist or connect wiring, anything where a voice isn't as important except in giving orders.

I think that's a reason I like musicals. "Phantom of the Opera" and "Jesus Christ, Superstar" have a lot in common with speaking as well as expressive singing. I can sing, I can carry the rhyme scheme & rhythm of a poem, and public speaking is a simple item. Usually I can speak on any subject or with any person.

Connecting to them, that's another story. Grabbing, electrifying them for a few minutes, for a class or to teach them a skill is one thing; keeping them coming back for more is something entirely different. Music, like art, is a thunderbolt to the heart. And as you can see/hear/read in my many blog entries I love music and how the music makes me feel, what it expresses, how it touches my soul. I wish I could express that too.

A few years ago I had a small dog that died under unfortunate circumstances, but when he came to me, and would snuggle up next to me, I'd softly sing to him. No one knew, nor heard, but that tiny little dog. Now I sing this to my other dogs when it's quiet.  This I would sing very softly:

Lyrics found here

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you, and anoint you.
Myrrh for your hot forehead, oh.
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool, and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes
And relax, think of nothing tonight.

After that I admit that I would Rick-Roll the world being an apostle of the infamous Rick Astley. I enjoyed his voice in the 80's and continually admit to still liking his amazing music and voice. When he appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2008 I was ecstatic!!

And yes, that deserves 2 (two) exclamation points.

When I had a different life, I received a message, and I can still hear it. It was an acapella voice singing softly from across the miles, and even now across the years, I can still hear it in the back of my mind.  I didn't have the technology to save it, nor the time as I my messages would only last a few weeks, but I played that song over & over, and it became mine.   Utterly, completely ... and I still smile.

Music can bring a man to his knees, a tear to your eye and repair a wound in your heart.

Here's what I heard, that one song. I probably bore people telling them about the past, but sometimes until there's something new, you need the memories. One day there will be new memories but at least these ones still make me smile.

Sing. When I was in elementary school my old music teacher, Mrs. Reynold's would play piano, and hand out textbooks with songs by the Beatles and mimeographed sheets of purple and white paper with song lyrics on them. This is one of those songs that I remember to this day. Though she must have been close to 65 years old she played the piano with the gusto of a jazz musician and sang as if her heart were on fire.

The Carpenters - Sing (lyrics)

Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad
Sing of happy not sad

(*) sing, sing a song

Make it simple to last
Your whole life long
Don’t worry that it’s not
Good enough for anyone
Else to hear
Just sing, sing a song

La la la la la
La la la la la la...

Sing, sing a song
Let the world sing along
Sing of love there could be
Sing for you and for me

Repeat (*)

Gonna keep singing.

Take care gang & have an amazing weekend.

Adios.

4 Day Weekend

Today is a half-day with the schools and Monday they're gonna be closed for Teacher Work Day all over the city, or at least with the districts  work for currently.

So I may be trying to spin some art and post a few things either here or around the 'net.  And moving about the city means maybe I can try drumming up some new clients for my artwork.

Let's see what happens.

Right now it's time for chili-cheese dogs.

Always,

Julian

Message in a Bottle

Message in a Bottle Survives Epic Journey
by Mike Krumboltz

Last year, a high school student named Corey Swearingen put a letter in a bottle, sealed it up, and dropped it in the Atlantic Ocean, off the Florida coast. It was kind of an experiment for school. In the letter, he appealed to whomever came across the bottle to contact him and let him know where in the world it showed up. Amazingly, someone did.

About 16 months after the bottle was dropped, Swearingen's marine science teacher heard from someone in Ireland. The letter had made its way across the Atlantic Ocean and washed up on the shores of the Emerald Isle, found by a 17-year-old and his Dad while out for a stroll. In an interview with Florida Today, Swearingen said he never expected the message to be found.

Can't blame him for pessimism. After all, the wine bottle, which, according to Swearingen, is being put up on display in an Irish pub, did face long odds. But it's hardly the first message in a bottle to survive a perilous journey.

In 2009, a message in a bottle washed up on the shores of England. It had been tossed into the waters near the Bahamas nearly five years previous. Incredible, but that pales in comparison to a bottle sent by Emily Hwang. True, Hwang's bottle traveled "only" 1,735 miles from Seattle to Alaska, but it took an amazing 21 years to do so.

There's even a case of a message in a bottle helping a family find a new life. In 1979, Dorothy and John Henry Peckham dropped a message in a bottle in the Pacific Ocean while on a cruise. Amazingly, the bottle found its way to Southeast Asia where it was picked up by 31-year-old Hoa Van Nguyen.

Nguyen wrote back and began a correspondence that eventually led to the Peckhams helping to sponsor Nguyen and his family's immigration to the United States.

Eat your heart out, email.

Sting & the Police - Message In A Bottle - Lyrics

Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day, with no one here but me, oh
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair, oh

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

A year has passed since I wrote my note
But I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life but
Love can break your heart

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

Walked out this morning, don't believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone in being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

Sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S.
Sending out at an S.O.S...
