Sequel to "Self-Loathing Game" - Written - 12/18/2008
As I left the store I was stopped at the lights of Military Drive and Zarzamora, and wandering between the cars was a tiny hulk of a man. His clothing was shabby, he looked like a hunchback, bundled, a battered sign flapping in the cold, holding the cardboard with had two words scrawled in bold letters:
Homeless Veteran
He looked like something Will Eisner would have drawn. When I saw the protected turn didn't change immediately, I bolted out of my car, opening the door, standing, scanning traffic for his location. I spotted him behind my car, a little back in traffic, shouted, and he ambled up to the best of his physical ability. (I think he had a limp.) I took the singles from my wallet, apologized for not having more, and jumped back into my car as the green light came on. Maybe this makes up for my behavior yesterday.
