I am griping because this is what's called "High Stakes testing" which is supposed to measure a certain performance level of an average of students. In each school there should be a large percentage of students passing meaning the education they are receiving is adequate to function on many levels of social movement. Students should be able to make a show of their efforts with the testing that everyone takes. And yet, parents are seeking these 'loopholes', or moving their children out of public schools and into private academies and alternative schools where TAKS test are completely ignored for their lack of real ability to measure. I don't doubt the work placed for the effort of seeing how our children are doing, I have umbrage with how the state of Texas has students gamble with their future, stressing them and prepping them only for this test and not the real world.

Word around the water cooler is that there has been an increase in remedial classes by community colleges because students have no real writing skills, can't follow or create a clear train of thought, or use proper syntax. THIS means a large number of entering freshman are all working in classes on material they should have covered in high school FOR FREE! This means they're all falling behind quickly ... and noone's seeing that this is as big a problem as the children who slip through the cracks and never learn.

Now, when Bush was Governor here in the Lone Star state, did HE take the TAKS? Or any form of standardized testing within the parameters of what could be considered his time 'in charge'? I tried Jeeves & Google for an answer to this question, and didn't find anything tonight, so anyone who finds something similar will be rewarded with gratitude & beer or pizza. I remember the axiom of a leader was "I wouldn't make you do anything I'm not willing to do myself." Is this the Truth of are we in the Orwellian moment of "Do as I say not as I do" being the flagstaff of hypocricy for our youth and education system?!

I know I sound like a whiny asshole but I keep thinking about all the shit I put up with in being an education student, and what I'm enduring FOR FREE to maybe have a career in the future. Am I burning my bridges behind me or am I just jealous & petty about my feelings within this quagmire of bilge and waste that is education in Texas. IS it so important to gamble like this or are we wasting our fucking time at the drawing board with this horse-shit?



I am being given some bullshit handjob that I may not be allowed into the student teaching program at my university in the fall. If I have to wait to pass into the hands of student teaching this January instead of in August then I am bamboozled up-the-ASS!! I've taken every fucking class; followed every rote command and worked my ass off for free all this time and been the lackey-of-all trades in my district. Now after being in education for 10 fucking years the goddamned mother-fucking assholes at my university that I am paying are denying me a chance to work AGAIN for fucking free! FREE! I need to have an apprenticeship before I can enter professional teaching
and fill out a questionairre that begins with "Why do you want to be a teacher?"
